The guide to the best wines of the 1974 vintage
Are you looking for a wine from 1974 to mark an important date or celebrate an anniversary? La Bouteille Dorée offers you a little practical guide to find your way around these old vintages and to find a bottle from 1974 that will really please its recipient.

Bordeaux 1974
A small vintage in Bordeaux, comparable to 1977, 1974 was a complicated year with difficult weather conditions from July onwards and wet weather during the harvest. The great wines of Médoc, Saint-Emilion and Pomerol have evolved in a rather uneven way, but there are very few successes, wines that have resisted after 40 years. The same goes for the sweet white wines of Barsac and Sauternes.

The rare successes of 1974
Very few wines for aging in France with this 1974 vintage: neither Burgundy, nor Rhône or Champagne. Italy is the place to go with the wines of Piedmont and Tuscany. A good vintage thanks to a hot and dry summer and a mild autumn, allowing a good ripening of the grapes. The wines are therefore quite rich with tannins that are now softened, and even if they have reached their peak, they can still be kept for a few years.
