Bordeaux 1982
1982 is an exceptional vintage with a very abundant harvest, a vintage that can be ranked among the best of the 20th century for Bordeaux wines. The weather conditions were excellent, with in particular an exceptional month of September, very hot and dry. The best wines are those from the north of the Médoc of Saint-Julien, Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe and from Libournais, Saint-Emilion and Pomerol: the wines are very dense on the palate, complex, with a perfectly balanced structure.
Burgundy 1982
What a contrast with the Bordeaux vineyards! After a superb flowering, the Burgundy vineyards experienced too much heat and scorching temperatures in September, which allowed very large volumes to be produced, but the red wines lacked concentration and, with a few exceptions, passed their peak. The white wines are, on the whole, superior.
Rhône 1982
The Rhone Valley experienced a very dry year in 1982 with heat peaks in September. The best estates in the north of the Rhône Valley, which have been able to implement temperature control during fermentation, have produced excellent wines for ageing such as Côte-Rôtie or Hermitage, in both white and red. Less success can be found elsewhere, as the wines of Condrieu and Châteauneuf-du-Pape lack acidity.
Champagne 1982
1982 was an exceptional vintage in Champagne and the best of the eighties thanks to excellent climatic conditions both for flowering and for the ripening of the grapes, with a very hot and dry summer. The great vintage champagnes of 1982 are rich and complex with a structure that allows them to be kept for many years.
