The guide to the best wines of the 1966 vintage
Want to find a wine from 1966 to celebrate a birthday or mark an important date? La Bouteille Dorée offers you a little practical guide to find your way around the 1966 vintage, a vintage to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary.

Bordeaux 1966
1966 is between the exceptional 1961 vintage and the very good 1970 vintage. The flowering went perfectly and although the summer was quite cool with some rain, the harvest took place under a bright sun and the ripeness of the grapes was perfect. The great wines of the Médoc and the Graves are both fine and concentrated, the grands crus of Saint-Estèphe offering powerful wines with very good ageing potential. The best crus of Pomerol and Saint-Emilion also offer beautiful concentrated wines. On the other hand, the Sauternes sweet wines did not benefit from favourable weather conditions for the development of noble rot and are of average quality.

Burgundy 1966
The red wines of Burgundy from 1966 are of quite uneven quality due to a mediocre summer and sometimes incomplete ripening of the grapes. The harvest nevertheless started with beautiful sunny and warm weather. The best wines offer bright fruit and good storage potential, especially in Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny and Vosne-Romanée. In white, the grands crus also offered a lot of elegance but for the most part exceeded their peak several years ago.

Rhône 1966
The best Rhône wines of 1966 are in the Côte-Rôtie and Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellations.

Other successes of 1966
Other successes of the 1966 wines include theThe natural sweet wines of Roussillon, Maury and Rivesaltes still offer, after more than 50 years, a lot of pleasure to be tasted.
There were few great successes in Italy, where the 1966 vintage was mediocre, apart from rare Barolo and Brunello wines.
