The history of Château Lagrange, a large wine estate in Saint-Julien and 3rd Grand Cru Classé, dates back to the Gallo-Roman era where traces of the Villa Rustica can be found. It was the Knights Templar who really began the cultivation of vines and who built the noble house of Lagrange de Monteil, the hospital and the chapel in the 13th century.
From the 17th century, the de Branne family, parliamentarians of Bordeaux and head of Mouton, became owners of the estate. The Tuscany Tower was built in 1820 by Visconti and became the emblem of Château Lagrange. In 1855, Château Lagrange was classified as a third growth, thanks to the efforts of its owner at the time, Count Dûchatel, Minister of the Interior under King Louis-Philippe.
Château Lagrange became the property of the Japanese group Suntory in 1983 and today it is Matthieu Bordes and Keiichi Shiina who continue the work of the last 30 years which allows the great wines of Lagrange to rediscover the racy and elegant character of the greatest wines of Saint-Julien. It is also an evolution towards greater respect for the environment and a reduction in the ecological footprint of the estate.
