GRAPES

The grape varieties are the different varieties of grapes, vines, which are grown to produce the wines. There are 10,000 grape varieties in the world and 250 are authorized in France to date. A wine is the result of a grape variety, a terroir (the soils and the climate) and the work of a winemaker and the grape variety is perhaps the easiest element to identify when tasting a wine.

Find the main grape varieties of white wines such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Chenin or Riesling, the main grape varieties of red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Grenache or Pinot noir, and rarer grape varieties, limited to a region or even an appellation such as Malbec (Cahors), Tannat (Madiran), the Mondeuse (Savoie), the Trousseau (Jura).
