Château Talbot is a Bordeaux winery in the Médoc, in the Saint-Julien appellation, whose great wine is the 4th Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien. It extends over 110 hectares of vines, on the edge of the Gironde estuary on draining hilltops of fine Günzian alluvial gravel.
The grape varieties are composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (66%), Merlot (30%) and Petit-Verdot (4%) for the red wines, which represent 95% of the production, and Sauvignon (80%) and Sémillon (20%) for the white wines.
Château Talbot takes its name from Constable Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, a famous English man-of-war and governor of Guyenne, who was defeated at the Battle of Castillon in 1453. It belonged to the Marquis d'Aux for many decades, before being acquired in 1918 by Désiré Cordier. His son Georges and then his grandson Jean succeeded each other at the head of the estate and made Château Talbot one of the most famous crus of Bordeaux.
Since the death of Jean Cordier, his daughters Lorraine and Nancy have taken over the reins. Nancy Bignon Cordier is assisted by her husband Jean-Paul, their children Philippine, Marguerite and Gustave.
Château Talbot is certified High Environmental Value level 3. He also produces a famous second wine: Connétable de Talbot.
