Domaine Elephant Hill was founded in 2003 on the beautiful coast of Te Awanga in the Hawke's Bay region of the Pacific Ocean, north of New Zealand, by Reydan and Roger Weiss after returning from a trip to Germany in the early 2000s. At the end of 2015, they asked their son Andreas to join them and entrusted him with the reins of the estate.
The Domaine benefits from superb terroirs in one of the hottest regions of New Zealand with lots of sunshine and little rainfall and very varied soils of pebbles and limestone on very old riverbeds. This diversity, combined with manual harvesting, meticulous sorting of the grapes and parcel selections, allows the Domaine to produce a very rich range of very different wines.
The preservation of the environment is a major concern of the Domaine: preservation of water resources with a biological treatment and recycling system, preservation and development of wild flora and fauna. Domaine Elephant Hill is certified by SWNZ, the New Zealand Association for Sustainable Viticulture.
