Chardonnay is the most planted white grape variety in the world with 199,000 ha, 50% of which is in France and the USA in equal parts, but also in Australia, Italy, Chile, South Africa, Spain and Argentina. Chardonnay is the grape variety for Burgundy white wines. It is also used in Champagne blends or is used alone to produce Champagne blanc de blancs. It offers a wide range of aromas, from the most mineral, as in Chablis, to the rich aromas of apple and pineapple in California and Australia. Some wines from the Chardonnay grape variety: Champagne, Chablis, Chassagne-Montrachet (France), California (USA), Victoria, Tasmania (Australia).
