Domaine Trimbach is a family-run wine estate located in Alsace, in Ribeauvillé, which extends over approximately 58 hectares spread over more than 50 plots and 9 villages. Its history begins in 1626 and today it is the 13th generation that has joined the estate.
It benefits from a rich palette of exceptional terroirs with varied soils of sandstone, limestone, marl and clay and the proximity of the Vosges massif. The Riesling grape variety in particular, which makes up 50% of the estate's grape varieties, produces superb wines on complex limestone rocks, including the shelly limestone called "Muschelkalk", its preferred terroir. Each grape variety thrives on its own terroir and the vines are 45 years old on average. Apart from the Pinot Blanc blended with Auxerrois, all the estate's wines are made from a single grape variety.
The vines have been cultivated organically for more than 10 years, a work initiated in 2008 in the Clos Ste Hune, a plot of 1.67 ha in Hunawihr. Each year, the estate also plants around a hundred trees in the vineyard, oaks and fruit trees, as well as many bushes. Birdhouses have been installed to preserve and promote biodiversity within the vineyard and the sheep herd maintains and enriches the soil.
