The Nyetimber vineyard is located in the south of England and extends over the 3 counties of Sussex, Hampshire and Kent, on 9 plots of limestone and greensand soils, very similar to those of the very best sparkling wine producing estates in Europe and in the world.
The maritime and temperate climate of this part of England and the southern exposure of the vines allow a slow ripening of the grapes and offer the wines of Domaine Nyetimber a very good balance between maturity and acidity as well as the finesse and aromatic complexity specific to great sparkling wines.
This young vineyard of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier was created in 1988 on a very old land: the name Nyetimber is mentioned as early as the 11th century to designate the Nitimbreha valley, perhaps in reference to a timber farm.
In 2006, Eric Heerema acquired Domaine Nyetimber with the firm conviction of the potential of this terroir. He then recruited two wine-making oenologists, Cherie Spriggs and Brad Greatrix, wife and husband, and with them succeeded in producing the best sparkling wines in England, now recognized in the world, praised by amateurs and oenophiles during competitions and other blind tastings.
The grapes are harvested by hand with gentle pressing and vinification separated from the plots. The wines are made according to the traditional method.
