This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2016 from the Domaine Jacques Prieur is a great red wine from Burgundy from the Côte de Nuits made from a 1.28 hectare plot on the 50-hectare Grand Clos created by the monks of Cîteaux. The soils are predominantly clayey and give powerful and structured wines, a little rustic in their youth. This 2016 vintage can be tasted but also offers a very good ageing potential, of about thirty years.
After a devastating frost at the end of April, which greatly reduced yields, the very hot and dry summer of 2016 allowed the grapes to ripen quickly and to be in perfect health.
It offers a dark ruby red colour and a concentrated nose with notes of red and black fruits, minty and toasted, evolving into spices and blond tobacco. On the palate it is dense and rich with a lot of consistency and thickness, on fruity, liquorice and spicy notes, fleshy tannins, and offers a superb and very long finish on cherry and kirsch. It is the ideal accompaniment to game or lamb meat.
