Château La Lagune is a great red wine from the Haut-Médoc, 3rd Grand Cru Classé, whose vineyard extends over 80 hectares on a gravelly hilltop perfectly oriented north-south. Château La Lagune takes its name from the aquatic environment in which it is located: the Médoc, a strip of land that stretches between the ocean and the Garonne, "in media aquae", in the middle of the waters in Latin, where the river once carried pebbles from the Pyrenees.
Caroline Frey, a brilliant oenologist, has been running Château La Lagune for about ten years and is working to set up an environmentally friendly viticulture based on the principles of organic and biodynamic farming. The official transition to organic conversion was initiated in 2013 and certification was obtained during the 2016 harvest.
Château La Lagune has the distinction of being one of the five Médoc châteaux of the official classification of Bordeaux wines from 1855 not to be part of the Saint-Estèphe, Saint-Julien, Pauillac or Margaux appellations.
The Château also produces a second wine, Moulin de La Lagune, and since 2004, a third wine with Mademoiselle L.
