BURGUNDY GRAND AUXERROIS

Grand Auxerrois is the name given to the vineyards of the Yonne, excluding Chablis. It covers about 2000 hectares, 55% of which is white wine, 23% red wine, 20% crémant de Bourgogne and 2% rosé wine.

It is a very rich vineyard with a great diversity of terroirs, most of which are located on the limestone slopes overlooking the valleys of the Yonne or the Armançon. There are four main terroirs of the greater Auxerrois: the Auxerrois to the south-south-east of Auxerre, the Tonnerrois near Tonnerre in the Armançon valley, the Vézelien around Vézelay and the Jovinien which dominates Joigny, the northernmost of the Burgundy appellations.

The Grand Auxerrois includes 2 appellations Village, Irancy and Saint-Bris, and is rich in regional appellations most often identified by the name of the vineyard of the production commune: Bourgogne Chitry, Bourgogne Côte Saint-Jacques, Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerre, Bourgogne Coulanges-la-Vineuse, Bourgogne Epineuil, Bourgogne Tonnerre, Bourgogne Vézelay.

The grape varieties of Grand Auxerrois are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Aligoté, César (Irancy), then later Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris (Saint-Bris).
