Domaine Saint-Andeol Cairanne Excellence Red 2016 Magnum
This "Excellence" 2016 cuvée is a beautiful red wine from the Rhône Valley produced by Domaine Saint-Andréol in AOP Cairanne, from the best plots of the estate, Grenache Noir for 60%, complemented by Syrah for 40%. It is offered here in a 1.5-liter Magnum.
Formerly part of the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation, Cairanne became a full-fledged AOP in 2018 and thus rewards the constant efforts of the region's winemakers to raise the quality of their wines on a little-known terroir yet so close to Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
This Cairanne 2017 offers a deep ruby red colour and a nose with aromas of black fruits, roasted herbs, blackberry and cherry in brandy. On the palate, the substance is full-bodied, concentrated, spicy, with fine tannins and a persistent finish. It can be kept until about 2028 and enjoyed with red meats, game, lamb chops, leg of lamb and hard cheeses (Comté, Beaufort).
