Chateau Chasse-Spleen Moulis-en-Medoc Cru Bourgeois Red 1975

Château Chasse-Spleen is an exceptional Cru Bourgeois from the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation that often rivals many of the Grands Crus Classés of the Médoc.

The 1975 vintage appeared on its release as excellent in Bordeaux and with the promise of a long ageing potential. 45 years later, many of the wines of 1975 have remained rather austere, but the best wines of the Médoc, including Château Chasse-Spleen, Graves, Pomerol and Saint-Emilion, with significant differences depending on the wine, have stood the test of time.

Born in 1720 from the mind of Monsieur Gressier, a great bourgeois of Bordeaux, on the hamlet overlooking the gravelly hilltops of Grand Poujeaux, the estate would bear the name of Château Poujeaux-Castaing a hundred years later and then became Chasse-Spleen on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition in London in 1863, in memory of Lord Byron who had complimented the wine during one of his visits as having no equal in chasing away spleen. Charles Baudelaire and Lord Byron were prestigious ambassadors of Château Chasse-Spleen.
