Les Forts de Latour 1973 is the second wine of the mythical Château Latour, 1er grand cru classé in the Pauillac appellation. It still offers a rather surprising nose with notes of cedar and on the palate, a limited concentration but a present fruit and elegant tannins.

Les Forts de Latour is made with grapes that come from plots located outside the Enclos where the vines are about forty years old, from a small plot of 7 ha in the commune of Artigues and young vines from recently replanted plots or from vines planted in older plots. It is aged with 50% new barrels and is made with a percentage of Merlot, from 25 to 30%.

The 1973 vintage was an average year for Château Latour. The vineyard experienced high temperatures and sustained rains in June, but flowering went well. The summer was rather hot and quite dry, but the cold and rain came during the harvest and the harvest was rather diluted. Fortunately, a rigorous selection of the grapes made it possible to obtain fruity and fairly round wines.
