Occidental Running Fence Cuvee Catherine Pinot Noir Sonoma Valley USA Red 2014
The 2014 Catherine is a great Pinot Noir wine produced by Occidental in California's Sonoma Valley, from the Bodega Ridge vineyard, acquired by Occidental in 2008, and more precisely from a plot, Running Fence, overlooking the Pacific Ocean only a few hundred meters away.
It offers a ruby purplish colour and a pure and intense mineral nose, with aromas of wild red and black berries (cranberries, blackberries, blueberries) and slightly iodized notes. The substance is very fine and taut on the palate, marked by notes of black fruit and blood orange. The finish is incredibly persistent, elegant, with a saline minerality.
Due to the early harvest, the harvest was lower than previous vintages and resulted in elegant, subtle and very fruity wines with good acidity, cut for ageing: in the Sonoma Coast, the 2014 vintage is the best since 2005 and 2007, also superior to 2012 and 2013.
