This Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches 2023 is a very beautiful red wine from Burgundy produced by Domaine Joseph Drouhin in organic and biodynamic farming. It comes from a 6.75-hectare plot located in the south of the Beaune appellation, adjoining Pommard, halfway up the hillside, gently sloping, facing east/south-east.
It offers a beautiful deep ruby red colour with fresh and intense aromas of black and red fruits, blackberries, morello cherries and raspberries on the nose, with smoky notes, violets and liquorice. On the palate, the attack is frank and fleshy, firm but with a lot of freshness.
The name "Clos des Mouches" comes from the hives that this clos housed and the bees formerly called "honey flies". It was one of the very first vineyards acquired by Maurice Drouhin in the 1920s, which he managed to build up with about forty different plots. It is planted in red and white, in equal parts.
