This Beaune-Grèves 1er Cru 2016 from Domaine Jacques Prieur is a great red wine from Burgundy from a 1.17 hectare plot overlooking the city of Beaune, on clay-limestone soils with a predominance of greaves (small pebbles) and sand, which gave the name to the climate.
After a devastating frost at the end of April, which greatly reduced yields, the very hot and dry summer of 2016 allowed the grapes to ripen quickly and to be in perfect health.
It offers a dark ruby red colour and a discreet nose, very elegant with notes of black berries (blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant) and slightly toasted. On the palate, the substance is dense and fleshy, fruity and spicy (cloves, pepper), with ripe tannins and a fresh and persistent finish. It is the ideal accompaniment to a rabbit stir-fry, a grilled duck breast or a roast beef.
