Secreto is a Chilean wine from the Viu Manent estate, 85% of which is made from the Carménère grape variety and whose blend with other grape varieties up to 15% is kept secret. The 2021 vintage offers a cherry red colour. The nose reflects the personality and typicity of the Carménère with intense aromas of fruit (cherries, ripe plums) and notes of black pepper and freshly ground coffee due to the partial ageing in oak barrels. The palate has a beautiful structure with volume, elegance, balance and complexity and a long finish. A wine to be enjoyed from now until 2028-2030.
The Carménère grape variety was known in Bordeaux for several centuries but the arrival of phylloxera in the 19th century wiped out the vineyard and today there are only a few dozen hectares in France. It was in Chile that we found in the 90s a few Carménère plants that allowed the development of the cultivation of this grape variety in Chile.
