GRAPE VARIETIES AND TYPES OF WINE
The grape varieties, i.e. the different types of vines, are almost all made from a single species: Vitis vinifera. Alone or assembled with others, The grape variety usually makes it easy to identify a wine and the region it comes from.
Each grape variety has privileged geographical areas, countries, regions and appellations, in which it flourishes best and where it gives the best wines.
Some grape varieties can be used to produce both white wines, rosé wines, and red wines, with the color of the wines usually related to the color of the flesh of the grape and the maceration time of the skin.
The date of the harvest and the winemaking and ageing techniques play a decisive role in the production of different types of wines, dry, sweet or sweet whites, natural dry or sweet reds, brut champagnes, extra-brut, rosé or non-dosed champagnes.
